Principles of Operation
The DragonFly SA PASS doesn't "cry wolf." It guards against false alarms with a patented Gyro-Trac motion sensor, which user a flexible, printed circuit board and a non-corrosive, electrically conductive, phosphor bronze ball bearing. When the wearer is in motion, the ball bearing moves around in a circular pattern, touching at least two of several electrical contacts within the unit. When the wearer stops moving, the ball fails to touch at least two contacts, and the DragonFly SA PASS senses a lack of motion.

If the wearer hasn't moved for 18 seconds, the pre-alarm system sounds a series of chirps and flashes LED indicator lights before progressing to volume increases and tonal changes, all in concert withLED color shifts. The range of warning alarms is achieved through two large-diameter piezo resonators, both emitting piercing 95-decibel sounds at a distance of three meters during the full alarm. Pushing the reset button twice can deactivate a unit in full alarm, but it cannot be turned off unless the key is reinserted.

Product Information
The DragonFly SA PASS (Personal Alert Safety System) complies fully with NFPA-1982, 1998 edition, a standard that requires stand-alone PASS devices to activate automatically. In addition, the standard requires two jumps into pre-alarm volume and a two-step deactivation. A specially designed tethered key attaches to a jump seat, locker or vehicle interior. When the wearer leaves for the hazardous area, the key snaps off, activating the DragonFly SA PASS. For enhanced protection, the DragonFly SA PASS not only meets NFPA's required volume changes, but also extends the safeguard by delivering changes in tone. Furthermore, it's a low profile, lightweight device that can withstand crushing impact. Integrated versions of PASS devices must connect to the SCBA for activation. But because it's an all-in-one, independent unit, the DragonFly SA PASS doesn't require integration with any other equipment. It can be used even when the job doesn’t call for an SCBA. With the DragonFly SA PASS, the wearer has the freedom to choose where and how to use it. Whether the wearer uses another manufacturer's SCBA, an older version SCBA or no SCBA at all, the DragonFly SA PASS is compatible with your selection. The device fastens securely to a belt or clips onto turnout gear and is designed to accommodate different belt sizes. As an option, the DragonFly SA PASS can be equipped with a heat sensor. The temperature-sensing unit (thermistor) measures heat on a time-weighted average. This design is based on the guideline that exposure to 180 degrees F for 18 minutes is just as hazardous as 600 degrees F for one minute. At either extreme, and for every temperature in between, the device will sound an alarm to alert you that dangerous heat levels are looming.
